Police in Mombasa have nabbed three suspected members of machete-wielding Wakali Kwanza gang.
This comes after the gang members on Monday attacked residents in Kisauni and Nyali constituencies.
The suspects have been identified as 17-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed Hamdan, Jackson Okelo, 26 and Paul Ayub, 18.
Confirming the arrest, Kisauni Sub-County Police Commander Julius Kiragu said the officers recovered items that were stolen from victims.
"The suspects are being held at Kadzandani police post and they will later in the day be taken to Shanzu Law Courts. We are still continuing with our operation. We must deal with these people," Mr Kiragu told the Nation during a phone interview.
The arrest comes after Nyali Sub-County police commander Simon Thirikwa assured residents that police officers were pursuing the gang.
"Several gunshots have been heard. Police are now going after those youths who managed to escape after stealing from several stalls," Ms Mary Odhiambo, a resident, said as reported by the Nation.
The marauding youths terrified residents in Bamburi Mwisho area. Stalls and entertainment joints that operate until the wee hours of the night closed early as the blood-hungry gang terrorised residents.
The Monday attack left 13 residents nursing injuries.
