The purge on corruption has been crafted into a war against Deputy President William Ruto and his allies, former Makadara Member of Parliament Benson Mutura has claimed.
Speaking on Saturday, the ex-lawmaker said judging by the pattern being used to fight the menace, the war against graft is coming out as a plot to frustrate the DP, and those close to him.
He claimed this is the reason why majority of the governors facing corruption cases are those deemed to be allied to the DP.
"We can't be doing things targeting one person, all the policies being formed by the government since the handshake are targeting the Deputy President. The governors being prosecuted are allied to him, and we are telling Raila to also let his be arraigned. (Hatuwezi fanya mambo kulenga mtu mmoja, zile sera zote serikali inabuni tangu handshake zinalenga naibu wa rais. Magavana wale wanapelekwa kortini ni wa upande wake, tunasema Baba pia awachilie wake wapelekwe kortini)," he said on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi.
According to Mutura, the plot to allegedly victimise the DP has now been extended to his supporters and the people hailing from his backyard.
He further noted that development projects from the DP's backyard are also being suppressed, with an aim of frustrating him.
"Look at the dams issue, all those halted are in Rift Valley, where they are being seen as beneficial to Ruto's people. The same company has been given dams in Garissa. (Angalia mambo ya dams, zile zote zimesimamishwa ni za Rift Valley kwa sababu inaonekana zitasaidia watu wake. Hiyo kampuni ndio imepewa dams kule Garissa)," he added.
This comes at a time when President Uhuru Kenyatta has declared a total war on corruption, terming a graft-free republic one of the legacies he seeks to leave behind after his 2022 retirement.
