An M-Pesa attendant is fighting for her life at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after she was attacked while returning home from work on Monday.
The victim Jane Moraa, an M-Pesa agent at Keumbu market was attacked at Riomweri village in Keumbu by thugs.
Area assistant chief Fred Onyambu said the victim was attacked at 8 pm near her home.
"The victim was almost at her home when thugs confronted her, beat her up mercilessly before stealing an unknown amount of money, mobile phone and other valuables," Onyambu noted.
Kisii Assistant Police Commander Caleb Matoke said the victim sustained serious injuries on her head.
Police have since launched investigations into the incident.
"Cases of insecurity will not be tolerated anymore. The thugs who attacked the victim are being hunted down. I urge the public to report anyone they suspect was behind the attack for necessary legal action to be taken," Matoke noted.
He warned youths against engaging in criminal activities during this festive season saying security patrols have been intensified to flush out criminals.
He said the victim is responding well to medication and assured the family that the attackers will be arrested.
