Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago on Friday launched water drilling exercise in Kuinet. He said his aim is to ensure that every household access to clean water without walking for long-distance looking for the commodity.
"In my second term in office, I am poised to ensure that residents across the county access to clean water. Cases of women walking for long distances carrying water in their backs will be a thing of the past on the water drilling exercise is complete," said the County boss.
Mandago who spoke after he officially presiding over the groundbreaking of water drilling exercise in Kuinet on Friday called on residents to use water for irrigation that will guarantee food security and also help them earn a living.
"Many water projects are ongoing. It is our aim that the water is used for irrigation, livestock and for domestic use," said the Jubilee party governor.
The Governor urged the residents of Kuinet to use the water in irrigation, household and livestock among other uses in order to realize economic transformation.
CEC in charge of water Mary Njogu disclosed that over 56 boreholes are expected to be drilled this year in a bid to increase access to clean and safe water.
She noted that they will ensure the projects takes the shortest time possible so that resident can benefit.
