One suspected member of the knife-wielding gang Wakali Kwanza was on Saturday killed by an angry mob as two managed to escape.
Angry residents combined efforts with bodaboda riders to attack three members of the gang that are accused to have been terrorizing Likoni residents and its environs.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the gang members attacked and robbed one woman at Mwananzia residential area within Likoni around 6 am before they vanished into a nearby quarry which they have been using as their hideout.
After residents and bodaboda riders received the news, they launched a manhunt for the suspected gang members who are known among Likoni residents.
The three gang members were found at the said quarry and were still armed with the pangas.
After the angry mob approached them, two of them managed to escape but one who wanted to scare the mob with his panga was lynched to death.
One of the bodaboda riders identified by one name, Hassan revealed that the gang had also on Thursday last week attacked a rider who is still nursing panga injuries.
"He had a sharp panga and he thought the mob would fear. He was stoned to death. He is known in the area. He is a young boy who is supposed to be in school," said Hassan as quoted by the Standard.
Police who came to the crime scene collected the body and took it to Manyatta Hospital before transferring it to the Coast General Hospital mortuary.
Likoni deputy police boss Elina Wanjala confirmed the killed suspect was indeed a member of the Wakali Kwanza.
