Deputy President William Ruto's camp is desperate for an endorsement from President Uhuru Kenyatta, city lawyer Donald Kipkorir has opined.
Kipkorir made the remarks after Ruto’s supporters appeared to celebrate a meeting between the DP and his boss in a church function on Sunday.
Uhuru and the DP attended the installation service of presiding Bishop-elect Rev. Abraham Mulwa and deputy presiding Bishop-elect Abraham Kirui at Africa Inland Church (AIC) Milimani, Nairobi.
The meeting was welcomed warmly by the Ruto's camp, dubbed Tanga Tanga, most probably because this was the first time the DP appeared publicly together with the President in more than a month.
Kipkorir mocked Tanga Tanga, saying they were reading too much into the function, which he opined Uhuru was not keen to listen to politicians' speeches.
"Kenyans are an amazing lot: President attends installation of a Bishop at AIC Milimani and TangaTanga gets so excited because of a picture. But they won’t tell you the President left halfway the service before any politician spoke. Why is TangaTanga so desperate for one endorsement?" he posed.
Political commentator and columnist Gabriel Oguda also waded into the issue, claiming Uhuru left before the service ended to avoid being photographed with his deputy.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta left church midway today. Political analysts say it was his way of avoiding his Deputy whose handlers had their cameras ready for an after the service photo op," Oguda tweeted.
