Alarm has been raised in Isiolo town and its environs over the increased smuggle of black heroine into the town by unknown cartels and distributors.
Residents claim that the youths from the region have been massively ruined by the side effects of the drug which is a byproduct of heroine.
Speaking on Citizen Radio on Friday evening on a special feature, the furious locals called for quick intervention by the relevant authorities.
“Its effects are wild in that a number of boys have commenced undergoing menstrual cycles and also gone insane," explained Nuru Juma Osman,a Isiolo resident.
Josiah Kogo who works at the Isiolo county education office added that all stakeholders must come together to address this issue.
It was noted that most youths in Isiolo have been addicted to the drug that is said to be frequently smuggled into the town by unkown cartels.
Confirming the claims,Isiolo police commander Joseph Kigen warned the distributers of the substance and said police have launched a man hunt for them.
He also said those distributing the illegal drug are being cornered down.
The alarm comes amid queries raised by Isiolo North MP Hassan Odha who pleaded with relevant stakeholders to come up with rehabilitation centres to enlighten their sons and daughters on the dangers of drug abuse.
His sentiments were echoed by his Isiolo South counterpart Abdi Koropu who added that the illegal distributors will be soon stopped.
Japheth Mutha , a newspaper vendor told radio citizen of the strange characters he has commenced observing among the youths in Isiolo.
“Some of them are talking and laughing to nobody while some boys claim to be undergoing menstruation”, he said.
County commissioner john Ondego sympathized with the victims and promised quick intervention into the matter.
