Police officers in Nyamira County have intensified the fight against illicit liquor, Nyamira Commissioner Amos Mariba has said.
Mariba, while speaking in Nyamira town on Wednesday, said the brewing, selling, distribution and consumption of illicit alcohol must come to an end.
"Police officers across the county have intensified the crackdown on illicit liquor and other drugs. Residents are encouraged to report anyone engaging in the dubious business to police for arrests to be made," he said.
The commissioner reiterated that the government will not legalise the sale of illicit liquor, adding that parents allowing their children to consume liquor will be arrested.
He urged Nyumba Kumi officials at the grassroots level to work around the clock and help police officers identify those engaging in the sale of the outlawed liquor.
"Night clubs and liquor selling joints admitting underage children will not be spared by the law. Alcohol consumption has negatively affected the level of education among children in the county and therefore parents are encouraged to report children consuming liquor to the police for necessary actions to be taken," said Mariba.
Mariba urged residents to venture into legal businesses to avoid being on the wrong side of the law.
