Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has come out to explain why Deputy President William Ruto's camp made a dramatic U-turn on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Cheruiyot said they realised by continuing opposing BBI they were antagonising President Uhuru Kenyatta and risked attracting his wrath.
“We respect the President. This is his government and he has the power to make decisions as he wishes. You know if you’re under somebody you have little to say and most of the time you have to humble yourself,” he said, as quoted by the People Daily.
In an interview with a Kalenjin vernacular radio station, the Senator said another reason they decided to join BBI rallies was that Ruto does not want confrontational politics which "ODM is looking for, to widen the rift and ruin his chances".
He claimed the last BBI meetings in Kisii and Kakamega were used by ODM leader Raila Odinga and his allies to vilify the DP, saying their presence in the upcoming forums will make their opponents desist from attacking him.
Cheruiyot also disclosed Ruto's camp was also planning to organise and take charge of complementary BBI rallies in areas where they enjoy a huge following.
"We will be in Mombasa. We will attend all these rallies and also organise ours in our strongholds such as Kericho, Nakuru, Eldoret, Western, North Eastern, Eastern and parts of the Coast region," he said.
