The National Police Service (NPS) has released a preliminary report on the sudden death of prominent lawyer and businessman Karanja Kabage.
According to a press statement from NPS, the road accident that killed Kabage occurred on Friday July, 5, 2018 at around 21: 47.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was driving a black Land Cruiser VX along Southern Bypass from Ole Sereni direction towards Kikuyu general direction.
"According to eye witness, the vehicle veered off to the wrong side of the road, slowed down, appeared to be making a U-turn before slightly hitting the pavement," read a statement released on Saturday.
Two people, one being a taxi driver, rushed to the scene of the accident and Kabage requested to be taken to Nairobi hospital.
"The taxi driver took control of the Land Cruiser and drove the victim to Nairobi Hospital. They were accompanied to the hospital by the good samaritan who drove in a second vehicle," read part of the statement.
Upon arrival at the health facility, doctors tried to resuscitate Kabage, who was unconscious, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead.
NPS Director of Corporate Communications Charles Wahong’o said the Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai has since directed the DCI to institute investigations into the probable cause of death.
"We ask for patience and cooperation as we work to establish the probable cause of death," said Wahong’o.
Kabage's death had been mourned by prominent leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM party leader Raila Odinga among others.
