Two Members of Parliament from the Gusii region have defected from Deputy President William Ruto's camp on the allegations that MPs allied to Ruto have undermined Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.
The two legislators, MP for Nyaribari Masaba Ezekiel Machogu and MP for Bonchari John Oyioka, declared their defection from Ruto's camp in support of Matiang'i during a meeting of Gusii leaders.
They went ahead to point out that the Gusii community was no longer part of the allies of DP Ruto popularly known as the 'Tangatanga' group.
“I would like to declare here today that I am no longer in Tangatanga after realising that its goals are not for the good of the Gusii people and its members were only after abusing Dr Matiang'i, who is our brother, for no apparent reason,” Machogu stated.
Machogu nonetheless admitted that some of the leaders from the Gusii community were still against Matiang'i.
Bonchari MP John Oyioka, on the other hand, vowed not to attend meetings of the Tangatanga group.
“By attending a meeting where Dr. Fred Matiangi is being abused and admonished for no apparent reason even if I do not comment anything, it still implies that I am in support of what is being said, that is why I have made up my mind to walk out,” he said.
Other MPs who have shown their support for Matiang'i include MP for Kitutu Chache South Richard Onyonka, MP for Kitutu Chache North Jimmy Angwenyi and MP for Borabu Ben Momanyi.
