Secretary General Nick Salat attended the unveiling of NASA at the Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday and said they fully support the coming together of the parties, which was translated by many as a representation of the KANU party.

However, NEC member Ziporah Kittony has dismissed the move terming it personal, and is in no way an endorsement of the whole party.

Kittony said Kanu’s policies and decision are guded by its constitution, which stipulates that such resolutions must first be discussed by the national delegates’ congress.

In a statement on Wednesday evening, the members clarified that Salat’s sentiments are personal, and do not in any way reflect the position of the party at the moment.

“However, the remarks made by Hon Nick Salat at the Bomas of Kenya are his personal sentiments. They do not reflect in any way the position of the party on the matter of an election coalition at this juncture,” said Kittony.

According to the nominated senator, the party has not held the congress as required by the constitution, meaning they cannot take such step at this moment.

“As they have not been subjected to the internal constitutional process for ratification,” added the statement.

During the Bomas meeting, Slat said Kanu was fully behind the formation of NASA, and will abide by the policies and resolutions of the meeting.

“Mimi kama katibu mkuu wa KANU, nawahakikishia kwanmba tuko ndani kabisaa. (As the general of Kanu, I want to assure you that we are fully part of NASA,” Salat Said.
