All is set for the inaugural Bishop Cornelius Korir memorial peace cross country race scheduled for this Saturday.
The event will take place at Eldoret Sports club grounds.
According to Fr William Kosgei, the Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret, the peace cross country race is meant to commemorate the peace that the late Bishop Korir was advocating for.
Bishop Korir, who died on October 30, 2017, was instrumental in peace efforts in banditry prone areas in the Rift Valley.
“All is set for Bishop Korir memorial race. Athletes from Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, and Nandi counties will participate,” said Fr Kosgey who spoke to the press at the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret headquarters in Eldoret on Wednesday.
He said the race does not target Catholics alone but all across the board.
The Vicar General also reiterated that the cross country will involve lower primary 6-10 years, upper primary 12-15 years, junior secondary school, elite men and women, parish teams, and a fun race.
“Let us come in large numbers as we honour our late Bishop Cornelius Korir who was a peace icon and for his commemoration let us put into practice what he advocated for that is preaching peace,” he noted
Both local and national political leaders, religious leaders and other dignitaries are expected to attend the event.
