The handling of the case of a demoted seal has seen Navy secretary Richard Spencer lose his job.
Reports on BBC indicate that Edward Gallagher, the demoted seal, is reported to have posed with a corpse igniting tensions between United States of America President Donald Trump and military officials.
Defence Secretary Mark .T. Esper told members of the press that he had demanded the resignation of the navy chief because he had lost confidence in him.
According to Esper, the position of the navy secretary on the matter in private conversations with the White House and public did not seem to tally.
“The lives of our sailors, marines and civilian teammates quite literally depend on the professional execution of our many missions, and they also depend on the ongoing faith and support of the people we serve and the allies we serve alongside,” Richard Spencer's resignation letter read in part according to the New York Times.
“Unfortunately, it has become apparent that in this respect, I no longer share the same understanding with the commander in chief who appointed me, in regards to the key principle of good order and discipline. I cannot in good conscience obey an order that I believe violates the sacred oath I took, " Spencer added.
President Trump responded to the resignation on Twitter, expressing his gratitude to Spencer for his services to the country.
“Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer’s services have been terminated by Secretary of Defense Mark Esper. I thank Richard for his service and commitment," Trump said.
