Acute HIV infection develops as early as two to four weeks after someone has fallen victim to HIV.
It is also known as primary HIV infection. From a biological point of view, during this stage, the body usually creates antibodies against the virus.
The signs and symptoms associated with this initial stage of HIV usually manifest themselves after two weeks of infection.
However, it usually hard to know whether you have been afflicted with malady as the signs may be mistaken for another disease like malaria.
Here are the signs as highlighted by Daniel Murrell, MD, an infectious disease specialist in Macon, Georgia
1. Fever
A higher than normal body temperature should actually raise your eyebrows. Although the sign may correlate with many diseases, it could mean that HIV virus is actually taking its course in your body. Prolonged fever is an evident sign of acute HIV infection.
2. Rash
This is another sign that you should pay attention to. Any rash on your body could mean that all is not well and you should do something before it is too late. Visit your nearest VCT center and confirm your status.
3. Headaches
They are common but one that perpetuates should shed light to you that you aren't in a good shape. Ensure that you make an appointment of seeing a doctor before the condition gets out of hand.
4. Fatigue
Unexplained fatigue could mean you are suffering from various conditions ranging from malaria, typhoid to acute HIV infection. Be sure of seeing a doctor.
