Former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire has expressed fears that Deputy President William Ruto is keen to 'plant moles' within the party leadership.
The Orange Democratic Movement party is set for grassroot polls in February 2020, a move that has has raised political temperatures across all 47 branches.
Grassroot leaders are usually important in spearheading the party agenda at the local level. ODM last held the polls in 2011.
In a phone interview, Bosire said the party should be careful by only working with loyalists. He noted that a 'few imposters' were busy rushing to sabotage the party from within.
"There are plans by number 2 (Ruto) to plant moles in the party. That's why you're seeing some strangers expressing interest," he said.
"These are same people he wants to use so that he can cause chaos from within. We cannot allow that to happen," said Mr Bosire.
Bosire, who doubles as ODM treasurer, said the party will vet aspirants properly before advising delegates on how to go about the exercise.
"We are not fools and we know this is happening. We shall not allow infiltration. The last thing to happen is allowing sabotage from within," he said.
Dr Ruto has been traversing the country for a couple of years and has specifically visited Kisii and Nyamira at least 20 times since 2017.
