Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has criticised Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi after they failed to show up at the opposition meeting at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi on Wednesday.
Khalwale who spoke during an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday said if the two were part of the yet to be formed National Super Alliance (NASA), then they would have attended the opposition meeting accusing them of trying to fight for their political survival.
"If they were part of NASA, they -- Ruto and Moi -- would have been present at Bomas yesterday. What you are seeing are two individuals trying to save their political future by trying to remain relevant to the local politics," said Khalwale.
The Kakamega governor hopeful noted that Chama Cha Mashinani leader Isaac Ruto was at crossroads on whether to join the opposition or go back to Jubilee because of his fears to lose his seat as governor.
"For Ruto, it is a matter of fearing to lose votes by ascribing to the opposition politics, while Moi proved he is not with us when he succumbed to pressure from President Uhuru to vote in favour of the amendments to the election laws," he explained.
Khalwale, however, insisted they did not need the two leaders to get votes from the Rift Valley saying the votes they will receive from the region would be as a result of respect of the people to the opposition principals and not the support of the two.
