Wiper Party has embarked on replacing Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana as the chairman after he fell out with Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka.
Former Cabinet minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere has been identified as the potential successor of the county boss after a period of search.
Kalonzo wants to use Chirau to strengthen his party as he seeks to rise to power before 2022 after President Uhuru Kenyatta completes his second and final term in power.
A party National Executive Council meeting is expected to hold a meeting Wednesday, July 10 to make an announcement of Kivutha.
The former Ambassador of Kenya to Tanzania has reportedly been acting in the same capacity before the new development.
Kalonzo have been seeking for someone who is not qualified but also experienced in the game of politics.
Wiper Party Chief Whip Robert Mbui has confirmed that the party has agreed to give Mwakere the seat.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the top brass of the party has already asked to them give all files of the post to Mwakere.
“We’ve been instructed to hand over to Amb Mwakwere all the files which belonged to Prof Kibwana at the party offices but there’s no formal announcement about his appointment,” said the source, as quoted by Daily Nation.
