Former Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant and Eldoret-based tycoon Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop alias Buzeki on Saturday launched a food initiative project at his Chego farm in Ainabkoi constituency.
According to Buzeki, the project dubbed 'MLO MASHINANI' will enhance the cultivation of nutrient loaded indigenous food crops such as sweet potatoes, arrow roots and pumpkins.
The aim of the project is to ensure maximum production of food under both small and large scale.
"As the land mass continues to shrink and the population and nutritional demand expands, there is a need to reinvent the way we do our agriculture to ensure we have optimum production under small land scales and also reap economic value from it," reads part of Buzeki's post on Facebook.
The project will also provide the necessary coaching and dependable market for the produce.
"We provided sweet potatoes, arrow roots and pumpkin seeds to all the attendees and the foundation will offer farm extension follow ups to ensure seed utility all the way to harvesting. The foundation also through its market networks, will provide a market for any surplus produce," Buzeki added.
The businessman who lost to Governor Jackson Mandago during Jubilee's party preliminaries in 2017 and later in general elections is expected to try his luck for the gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2022 general elections.
After losing the seat in 2017, Buzeki has been paying more focus in the agricultural sector following the current challenges being faced by maize farmers from the North Rift region and other maize growing areas in the country.
