Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Sholei on Thursday shed tears after coming face to face with the suffering and poverty level of people living in Budalangi village in Soy constituency.
A section of those living in the area are poor, infested with jiggers and cannot even afford a single meal, noted the Woman Rep.
"Poverty and jigger infestation has really eaten into the lives of the residents and they are suffering in silence with nobody or place to run to," Shollei told the press.
“Through my visit, I have observed that locals have been deprived of their basic medical needs, clothing and other personal effects and will work round the clock to see how they can be helped," she added.
Children in the area were the most affected as they were barefoot and walk on a dirty environment which permits the entry of jiggers into their bodies.
The County MP now says she will focus on acquiring treatment and fumigation service to fight the jiggers before embarking on building a house and supply them with necessary personal effects.
During the visit, Sholei donated rubber shoes and fumigation sprays to a number of victims and promised to seek a solution to the situation.
She also appealed to well-wishers to support her move of restoring the dignity of the people of Budalangi by donating anything they can afford.
