Fresh reports have emerged on an unknown man who was shot dead after he allegedly snatched a gun from a police officer in Bondeni, Mombasa County.
While earlier reports had said the man was mentally challenged, fresh details indicate that the man is a suspected terrorist who was targeting to kill the officer.
According to a report by K24, the suspected terrorist snatched CZ Scorpion gun from one police officer who was manning First Community Bank in Bondeni, Mombasa.
The suspect then aimed at the officer but just before he could fire the gun, unarmed civilian kicked the man from behind sending him to the ground, an action that gave the officer an opportunity to grab his gun back and fired at the suspect, killing him on the spot.
Mombasa Urban Sub-County Police Commander, Eliud Monari, said the police in question was PC Njeru.
“The suspect is a person who knew what to do, and how to do it. He seems to be a well-trained firearm handler,” said Monari as quoted by K24.
“However, his identity remains unknown, given at the time of the incident, he did not have any identification document on him. We will take his fingerprints and forward them to the Registrar of Persons for analysis so as to ascertain his identity,” he added.
