The rising death toll following the West Pokot landslides has raised concern over Kenya’s disaster preparedness.
Most Kenyans are not aware of what they can do in the event of a landslide.
Well, you need some skills if at all you want to survive the scary moment.
Do not wait until calamity hits your doorstep before you run up and down.
Here are three ways to be safe during a landslide.
1. Remain alert all the time
It is important to remain awake when your area is facing landslides. Make sure you listen to the radio/watch television and call some of your friends within the region to understand what is going on. It is also critical to know the whereabouts of your family, neighbors, and relatives all the time.
2. Get out of the path of the landslide
If a certain area is identified as a path of the landslide, it is wise to keep off this area. Most people die for ignoring this advice. Ensure you are always at the safe place if you want to avoid problems in the near future.
3. Put up in a public shelterIt can be wise to stay in a public shelter. The public areas are ideal for your safety. Ensure that the area is clear and safe. It is also easier to get the support of the security and other persons when you decide to put up in a public area. Get in touch with the local authorities for the sake of your safety during this moment.
