National Super League 2018/19 champions Wazito FC have sacked their head coach and technical director.
Fred Ambani and Stanley Okumbi have been freed on what the club claimed to be mutual consent after poor performance since the start of this season's Kenyan Premier League (KPL).
"We can confirm that Head Coach Fred Ambani and Technical Director Stanley Okumbi have left the club by mutual consentm," reads part of club statement.
The club thanked the two for their great contribution to the team.
“I would like to thank coach Ambani and coach Okumbi for their great service to the club. They did a tremendous job during their time here and we wish them all the best,” CEO Dennis Gicheru said
The duo had reportedly fought over team selection. However, Mr Okumbi denued fighting Mr Ambani.
“It is not true that we fought. But there was a disagreement over fielding. Fred wanted (to field) a player who had just recovered from sickness. That was part of the problem,” Okumbi told Kahawa Tungu.
The alleged scuffle coupled up with poor performance irritated management. They felt the duo behaved inappropriately in the presence of their players.
According to the statement, assistant coach Hamisi Mohammed will temporarily be in charge of the team.
