In a Facebook post on Sunday, Owino said that President Uhuru Kenyatta has better issues to deal with rather than the debate on Ruto’s residence.

He reminded him that he has been among the Kenyans suspected of graft and hence he can use some of his millions to find a residence for himself. The lawmaker said that there is no reason to blame the head of state over the woes of the second in command.

“The Deputy President can stay at one of his many hotels in Kenya worth billions of shillings which was bought with stolen money if he feels locked out of his official residence. Let's not blame President Uhuru at a time when he’s dealing with a thief. May the President take his clothes and shoes," Owino wrote.

The remarks come in the backdrop of the campaigns and mobilisation of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report by leaders from the Nyanza region. Ruto has termed the mobilisation of the report as a waste of time and money.

“What are all these campaigns for? Who do they want to persuade? Is it a way of misusing government resources? If there are those opposing BBI, let them not hide behind these campaigns. They should come out and say what they are opposed to,” Ruto said.
