Five people have lost their lives as 13 others sustained serious injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident along Machakos-Wote road on Wednesday evening.
Machakos emergency services director David Mwongela said the accident involving a Nissan matatu happened at Muumandu area, Machakos.
He said that the five lost their lives on the spot after the driver of the vehicle lost control.
Mwongela added that the vehicle was being driven at a high speed and while approaching Muumandu, the driver was unable to control it. It rolled several times.
"The accident involving a Nissan Matatu took place at Muumandu, five people perished on the spot while 13 sustained Injuries," Mwongela told Hivisasa on phone.
Muumandu ambulance responded immediately and rushed the injured to Machakos Level Five Hospital for medical attention.
The bodies of those who died were taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary.
Mwongela urged drivers to exercise caution while on road and follow traffic rules to avert accidents.
At the time of going to press, the vehicle had not been towed from the scene.
