Police in Eldoret on Monday arrested 26 individuals with Ethiopian nationality suspected to have entered the country through illegal means.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Monday Uasin Gishu County Commander Johnston Ipara said the suspects were arrested at Solutions bar and Lodging in West Indies in the outskirts of Eldoret town.
“I want to confirm that our officers on Monday after getting information from the public of officers arrested 26 individuals of Ethiopian Nationality whom we suspect they were brought in the country through illegal means,” said Ipara.
The County Commander reiterated that investigations are underway to determine what transpired and how the 26 individuals managed to get their way into the Country.
He says they are currently being held at Eldoret Central Police station as investigations are underway.
“We suspect that they were being transported to the neighbouring country and they were just brought into the country waiting to be transported Monday night,” added the County Commissioner.
Ipara noted that after their arrest they were taken to court and police asked the court to grant them more time to conduct their investigations.
He warned those transporting people in the country illegally that they will be arrested and charged since its illegal to transport people into the country without following the due process.
