Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi stated that the clergy should distance themselves from self-centred politicians ahead of the 2022 polls.

Maangi who is serving his second term as Deputy Governor noted that as 2022 polls near, some politicians may be out to use the clergy to persuade faithfuls in their various churches to vote for them.

"Despite the fact that the church has been a strong pillar in our society, it is not recommendable for the clergy to side with selfish politicians whose aim is to get into power to enrich themselves without minding the lives of other people," Maangi argued.

He said the churches in the community bring people from diverse regions and backgrounds together.

"As the county government, we will continue to provide an enabling environment for the establishment of churches to ensure Kisii residents are worshipping without any difficulties. Church leaders should also maintain high levels of integrity when it comes to spending church funds meant for development," he added.
