Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot has dismissed reports that Members of Nyeri County Assembly voted to reject the Punguza Mizigo draft bill.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Aukot, a former presidential aspirant, shared a video that was taken during his presentation at the County Assembly and said the MCAs had not yet voted on the bill.
"#PunguzaMizigoBill2019 debate is on. Nyeri county Assembly is yet to vote as confirmed by the speaker @JohnKaguchia in this video after our presentation. Listen in," said Aukot in the tweet.
In the video, Nyeri County Speaker John Kaguchia, maintains that they have not made any decisions yet.
Kaguchia further noted that a decision will be made after consultations with the residents and that their stand would be announced in October.
The Speaker spoke after Dr Aukot presented the bill before the 46-member assembly.
“The decision will be in one meeting in October. For now we will talk to residents. (Uamuzi utakua katika kikao kimoja mwezi wa October. Lakini kwa wakati huu tutachukua muda wa kuongea na wananchi),” he said in the video that Aukot had shared.
Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru had earlier announce that Nyeri MCAs had rejected the bill.
“As I’ve said before, Mt Kenya is fully in support of BBI as evidenced today in Nyeri where the bill presented by Ekuru Aukot has been rejected by the whole assembly. Nyeri County has set the precedence, other counties are most likely to follow. These are signs of the times ahead,” said Waiguru in a tweet.
