Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has defended his absence in Kibra, at a time when politicians have been trooping to the constituency to campaign for their preferred candidates.
This is as the Kibra parliamentary mini poll which is set for November 7 draws nearer, in a race which will see 24 aspirants fight for the seat left vacant by the late Ken Okoth.
Linturi on Monday made it clear that he is in support of Jubilee Party candidate McDonald Mariga, who has received the support of a section of Jubilee Party members.
"I do not have to be in Kibra but I support the candidate fronted by Jubilee party, McDonald Mariga," he said on Citizen TV's Daybreak show.
He said that his support for the former footballer is in line with his membership of the Jubilee Party, which makes Mariga his automatic pick.
He added that though he has not been seen campaigning in Kibra, he has been doing his part in drumming up support for Mariga at the grassroots level.
"I am a member of Jubilee, Jubilee Party has a candidate, so that is where my heart is in Kibra. Even the few people I met yesterday who come from Kibra in Meru, I told them when you go there kindly vote for the Jubilee candidate," he added.
However, Mariga is facing rejection from some Jubilee members led by Nominated MP Maina Kamanda who have thrown their weight behind ODM candidate Imran Okoth.
