One of the key factors contributing to his success is his right-hand man, Taib Ali Taib. The former politician is among Haji's private legal counsel entrusted with prosecuting high-profile corruption cases.

Taib is the special counsel in the case against former Treasury CS Henry Rotich.

He received his law degree from the University of Nairobi and also has a diploma from the Kenya School of Law. He was admitted to the Bar as a High Court of Kenya advocate in 1988 and has practised law for 31 years.

In 2003, Taib was elected the Mayor of Mombasa and served until 2006. His political career came to an end after his election as a councillor was degazetted by government.

He came back to the limelight in 2016 after being shortlisted as one of the ten persons interested in the position Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson. He was unsuccessful and continued with his private law practice.

He resurfaced after being picked by the DPP as a private legal counsel and he is among a team that will be key in the success or failure of the case against the high profile individuals linked to the Kimwarer and Arro dams scandal.
