Robbers posing as police officers on Thursday stole Sh72 million from G4S officials who were transporting the money.
According to a report by the Standard, the robbery is suspected to be an inside job since the police impostors seemed to be aware of the transportation of the money from the G4S headquarters to a Standard Chartered Bank.
Surprisingly enough, there was minimal usage of force during the robbery.
A G4S official told the Standard that the fake police officers had escorted them from the G4S headquarters where they had withdrawn the money for transportation to the Standard Chartered Bank.
The G4S officials left the headquarters at around 6:00 am in two vehicles. On reaching the bank, the fake police officers reportedly turned on the officials and took 13 bags of money which had a total of Sh72 million.
They then left the G4S officials at the bank in shock as they sped off.
Nairobi police boss confirmed investigation into the robbery has been launched. Officials who were involved in the transportation of the money will also be questioned as part of the investigation.
The matter was reported to the police by a G4S personnel shortly after the car transporting the cash left the scene.
