Members of the Nairobi County Assembly allied to the ruling Jubilee party have lashed out at the party's rival Kieleweke and Tangatanga groups over their intensifying fights.
Speaking on Monday, the group took issue with last Sunday's incident where a scuffle erupted between Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and his nominated counterpart Maina Kamanda.
The two faced off during a harambee at the Gitui Catholic Church in Kiharu, after Nyoro stormed the function following a disagreement on who was to take charge, in what almost turned into a fight.
Led by house Majority Leader Abdi Hassan, the MCAs criticised the two leaders for shaming the party and its leadership, alongside disrespecting the altar.
"Leaders should desist from launching political attacks in churches because that is holy ground. It is sad that this type of politicking only happens in churches but not in mosques or temples,” said the Matopeni MCA.
They spoke during a fundraiser in Kayole where they challenged leaders to instead focus on serving Kenyans, debate on the floor of the house and help President Uhuru Kenyatta deliver his agenda.
Mr Abdi also discouraged leaders from engaging in early campaigns.
“Come 2022, Kenyans will not vote for whoever shouts the loudest in churches but based on who has brought the most development in their wards or constituencies,” he added.
Nyoro on Sunday apologised over the same, but not before being arrested and detained for a few hours over allegations of assaulting a police officer.
