While empathising with them, Kuria teased Raila that he should visit the victims since vocal lawyer Miguna Miguna, who hails from the region is not around.

Miguna, who hails from Magina village in Kisumu, has announced he will return to Kenya on January 7, 2020, after spending almost two years in exile in Canada.

"My heart goes to the people affected by floods in Nyando. Raila Odinga get some time to visit them. Local boy Miguna wont be there at least for next 9 days," Kuria tweeted on Monday night.

Reports indicate that at least 100 people have been left homeless after their houses were destroyed by floods.

Residents have been forced to seek refuge at the Nyamasao Primary School and at Kochogo Baptist Church, while others have moved to the neighbouring villages to live with their relatives.

“The calamity now calls for urgent humanitarian aid for the affected people as a number of families are not in a position to rebuild their homes following the wanton destruction,” said Ombaka-Kakola Assistant Chief Jacob Ong’udi.
