Despite the bad weather, Ruto's chopper flew and landed in West Pokot.
He was accompanied by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen among other leaders.
Other leaders including Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa failed to reach West Pokot due to bad weather.
“Due to adverse weather conditions, a delegation of state officers, including Dr.@FredMatiangi, @EugeneLWamalwa, @IG_NPS & the RC has been forced to land in Eldoret en route to W. Pokot to assess progress of recovery operations following the tragic landslides that hit the area,” said the Interior ministry on their Twitter account.
West Pokot started experiencing heavy rainfall from Friday which worsened with time causing mudslides and flooding.
Poor visibility due to the rains has slowed down retrieval of bodies from the mud.
