Kenya national men basketball team; the Morans, on Saturday overpowered a resilient South Sudan 74 against 68 baskets to qualify for the next round of the FIBA Afrobasket 2021, set for November.
The two teams clashed in the final of a five-day zone five Afrobasket pre-qualifiers staged at Nyayo Stadium basketball arena.
The Morans led in the first quarter 25 -19, with Sudan taking the second quarter with a score of 11 - 04. In the third quarter, Morans won 23 -11, with Sudan winning the last quarter 27 - 22.
"We talked as a team to deny them the ball and control the boards. Stop their execution and that was it. We are happy to qualify for the next round," Morans coach Cliff Owour told FIBA.
The next phase will be played between late November and early December this year.
Kenya will battle it out against Angola, Senegal, and Mozambique in the next round of qualifiers with the best three qualifying to the men's FIBA Afrobasket slated for 2021.
