Writing on Facebook on Thursday, Dr Mutua said it was the best news he had received over the Christmas period.

"The best news I have received this Christmas is about Rosemary Odinga regaining her sight. It just warms my heart to imagine the joy of seeing again after almost two years of blindness. I rejoice with Rosemary and the Odinga family for this great miracle. Thank you Lord!" Dr Mutua wrote.

Addressing a church congregation in Siaya during Christmas, Rosemar said she has finally regained her sight.

"I felt alone and had to quickly learn to use sounds and movements of people to tell who was around me. Those were the most trying moments of my life," she said as quoted by Nation.

The daughter of the former Prime Minister has been battling with eye sight complications for the past two years.

She has been pictured on several occasions with dark glasses and a walking stick.

Last year, she was flown overseas to undergo specialised treatment in a bid to save her failing eyesight.

In the lead up to the 2017 election, she had been rumoured to be keen on vying for the Kibra parliamentary seat until she fell sick.
