The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the United Kingdom (UK) has raised concerns over security at Wilson Airport in Nairobi.

In a statement on Wednesday, FCO urged UK citizens to exercise vigilance when using the airport.

“There are some concerns about the lack of security arrangements in place at Wilson Airport in Nairobi. Be vigilant at all times when transiting airports,” read part of the travel advisory.

UK citizens have also been advised to consider the condition of planes and runways at the airport when using a private aircraft.

“If you plan to charter a private aircraft, check with the company’s Safety Pilot about the condition of the aircraft and runways to be used. If the company has no Safety Pilot, find another company that does,” the statement adds.

This comes after various incidences involving Silverstone planes and a SafariLink plane were witnessed at the Wilson Airport. 

A few weeks ago, a plane belonging to Silverstone Air skidded off the runway during takeoff at the Wilson Airport. 

The plane which was heading to Lamu had 55 people on board. 

Days later, a SafariLink plane skidded off the runway at the airport forcing other planes to be re-directed to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. 

The incidences caused a public uproar forcing the government to launch investigations into the matter.
