Speaking to members of the press at Parliament buildings, the outspoken governing Jubilee Party legislator called on the government to go for the leaders and leave the Mau residents alone.

He said that the leaders opposed to the controversial evictions were ready to put their lives on the line to protect the rights of their people.

"Please come for us elected leaders as you've been lately been doing and I am an example. We are ready to take the bullet on behalf of those who elected us, do not go for them they are helpless citizens and voters, " the Nandi senator said.

Samson Cherargei contended that pushing out people from Mau was going against their rights to own property in the country.

His remarks come amid rising tensions over the second phase Mau evictions.

A section of leaders from Rift Valley has voiced their strong opposition to people being told to get out of the forest.

At the heart of their opposition is their argument that the land in contention does not belong to the national government but it is trust land that belongs to the Narok County Government.
