Uhuru to spearhead Mt Kenya BBI rallies It has emerged that President Uhuru Kenyatta intends to take charge of all Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) discussion forums at his backyard.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman, John Mbadi has confirmed that the head of state will be playing the lead role in the meetings as he looks forward to maximum support from the region.
Mbadi also said that the President has resolved to use his Cabinet Secretaries to push for the report’ acceptance in the region rather than political leaders because they want to use the same to pursue their personal interests at the end of the day. He also said that Uhuru believes it is easier to work with the appointed rather than elected leaders as far as the report is concerned.
“He is going to take charge of the meetings personally. He has also been heavily involved in the past two meetings by sending his Cabinet secretaries,” said Mbadi.
However, it has also been reported that the allies of the President have announced their plans to skip the meetings at Deputy President William Ruto’s backyard in the Rift Valley. This comes after the allies of the second in command made a dramatic u-turn on the rallies.
Led by Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, the leaders have vowed to attend all the rallies to popularize the report across the country. They have pledged to start with the Mombasa meeting. They have also pledged not to engage in sideshows as they attend the forums.
