Since independence in 1963, Kenya has had a total of 14 finance ministers. Surprisingly, two of these 14 finance ministers managed to become presidents of Kenya.

Former president Mwai Kibaki was finance minister from 199 to 1981.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was the 12th finance minister in the country under Mwai Kibaki as the head of state and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga as the Prime Minister.

Currently, the finance minister is Henry Rotich who was arrested over the multi-billion shilling Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal. This was after a directive from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji. 

Rotich with his Principal Secretary (PS) Kamau Thugge were released on a Sh50 million bond or a cash bail of Sh15 million each. Rotich's release has sparked mixed reactions among residents and leaders who wanted him to step aside from his office to pave way for more investigations. 

The 14 finance ministers have served under different regimes in the country. Also, they will be remembered for bringing different changes while the finance ministers.
