Mathew Kemboi and Judith Korir both from Elgeyo Marakwet are the new champions of the Kakamega Forest Marathon/.

The 42 km marathon took place on Saturday in Shinyalu Constituency. 

Kemboi participated in the race last year where he came second.

He noted that he had been practicing for the race and even want to do better in future. 

“I want to thank God for the victory, I’m very happy for winning this race and I want to say I have achieved my target of finishing a step higher than last year,” he said as quoted by he said.

Vivian Chepkirui won the 21 km race followed closely by Naomi Chebet and Agnes Keino who came in second and third positions. 

The marathon was aimed at conserving Kakamega Forest. 

Kakamega Forest Heritage organized the marathon in partnership with Citizen TV and Mulembe FM.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Kakamega Senator Cleopa Malala among other leaders.

Kakamega Forest is one of the largest forest conversations in Kenya.
