Survivors of the landslide that hit West Pokot county on November 23, are calling upon the government to help resettle them in alternative areas.
The victims were forced to flee their homes following the landslide, and have pitched camps in schools and other temporary areas.
Residents of Chekamos location; one of the most affected areas, have urged the government to help them, stating that things will be more complicated once schools open in January.
"Because now that schools are opening, we do not know where we shall be staying (Kwa sababu saa hii shule iko inafunguliwa, sijui tutaishi wapi)," one of the residents identified as Emily Chepkasian told NTV.
The residents also noted that they had lost their property, and cannot afford the required resources to take their children back to school.
"Schools are opening and we have people who are still residing inside the school. And those who lost their land do not have anything to use and take their children back to school We don't know what to do. (Saa hii ni wakati wa kufungua shule na watu bado wanaishi kwa shule, na hao wale ambao mashamba yao yalienda, hakuna kitu ya kupelekea kesho watoto kwa shule. Sijui tutafanya namna gani)," area chief Julius Longuriareno said.
The residents are also afraid of going back to their homes, arguing that the area may still be prone to landslides.
