Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has said that voter bribery and populist school of thought have affected Kenya in terms of leadership.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, Ledama said voter bribery has become part of Kenyan politics.
He argued that the voters cannot take part in an election if they are not bribed. He also said that populist movements have affected the sobriety of the voters.
“We have got two fundamental problems in this country. One is that we as a country we are so young and let us not lie to each other, we politicians we bribe voters. That is a fact. We do bribe voters that is one. I'm not saying that someone is bribing voters but I'm saying in totality we are a culture that willingly accepts bribe. We are a corrupt nation so we cannot run away from that fact."
“Number two, one of the most fundamental issues is that the problem we are facing right now as a country is that we are adopting into this populist movement whereby, whatever we think is good, ooh whatever a particular class of politicians think is good we just go for it," he said.
The senator also said that he doesn’t agree with the idea that ODM supporters pelted stones at Jubilee candidate for the Kibra by-election McDonald Mariga’s convoy.
