A Nyamira legislator was suspended after being found guilty of threatening to shoot a pastor's wife in the buttocks, a report has revealed.
Ekerenyo MCA Thaddius Nyabaro was suspended for three months besides being slapped with Sh10,000 fine by the assembly's Powers and Privileges committee.
The committee under the stewardship of Speaker Moffat Teya has been investigating the incident after the pastor's wife, who works in the clerk's office, raised the complaint.
Mr Nyabaro is accused of walking to the clerk's office, threatening to shoot the woman in the buttocks before slapping her in the presence of colleagues.
During the confrontations, the second term Jubilee MCA also hurled unprintable words at the staff member, accusing her of spreading gossip against him.
Also suspended was Violet Nyakora, a nominated MCA, who was declared a hostile witness. She will be away for two months and will have to pay Sh50,000.
A staff in the assembly who spoke in confidence says the suspensions have raised political tensions in the assembly, with Speaker Teya now being targeted.
"It's becoming difficult here. The speaker is now being targeted for suspending them. They don't seem to understand that the decision was made by a committee.
"We shall witness some other dramas in coming weeks. They are now planning against the speaker. Things aren't good for now," said the official.
Cases of extramarital relationships are synonymous with Nyamira County Assembly. A number of married MCAs and staff members are said to be cohabitating.
Also affected in the case is a female staff member from clerk's office, who was banned from attending the committee meetings henceforth.
