This is as emerging details indicate that 10 county bosses have been alerted to pay taxes which they have been evading.

The body says that it has found out that the governors in question have been filing nil returns despite having businesses and ventures bringing in billions of shillings.

Therefore, it has since written to them to either pay the tax accrued or find themselves in court for tax evasion.

According to a senior KRA official, one of the governors announced that he has lots of property during his swearing-in, but has not been remitting anything as required.

"One governor was the other day saying how wealthy he is and that he owns a lot of property in the city, but he has not filed any returns,” he told the Standard on Wednesday.

The group has also been summoned to explain why they have not been paying taxes, making them part of the 600 persons being pursued for costing the economy Sh250 billion.

Four governors have since appeared at KRA's offices in Times Tower, the latest one being a North Eastern Governor who spent hours explaining himself on Wednesday.

A total of 17 county governments also owe the authority Sh5.6 billion, with Nairobi alone owing more than half the amount.
