Police in Kisii have launched a manhunt to trace a census official who cannot be accounted for, just 24 hours after the exercise kicked off.
The official, attached to Marani Sub County, is said to have lost his gadgets from his house under unclear circumstances before taking off.
Police boss Martin Kibet said the matter is under investigations, adding that the officer's phone signal was last traced on Sunday in Mahi Mahiu.
"We have launched a search and rescue mission. We are told that he lost the gadgets before taking off. His phone is now off," he told reporters.
The incident came just a day after police in Manga arrested a census ICT officer who allegedly drunk and placed a laptop as a collateral in Nyamira.
County Commissioner Amos Mariba confirmed interdiction of the officer, adding that the laptop was recovered from Club Focus in Kisii.
"Police launched a mission to trace him after he failed to show up. We are glad that the arrested him. The laptop was also recovered from a club in Kisii," he said.
The official, who is likely to be charged on Monday (today), had taken several bottles of beer but could not be able to pay in cash at that time.
