President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga played a major role in helping Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) president Felix Tshisekedi capture power, Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o has said.

Speaking at the St Austin's Catholic Church in Nairobi on Wednesday, the county boss said the two lent a hand in helping Tshisekedi, a former opposition leader, defeat his rival from the ruling party in the 2018 polls.

According to Nyong'o, the two leaders mobilized global and African support in favour of Tshisekedi and his opposition brigade.

"I must thank President Kenyatta and Odinga who had faith in us and went ahead to embrace both the presidential candidate Tshisekedi and his party, the Union of Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS),” he said.

The county boss spoke at the requiem mass for Tshisekedi's special advisor Gilbert Mundela who suffered a heart attack and succumbed to cardiac arrest in Nairobi on Friday.

“Otunnu and I had no alternative but to mobilise the African support for our friend to win the elections. It seemed a tall order, but listening carefully to Mr Mundela and Mr Mwamba I was instantly sold to the idea," he added.

This could be an explanation on why Uhuru was the only President who attended Tsishekedi's swearing in on January 24 last year, an event that was also attended by Raila
