The DP is among the few Kenyans who have already declared their interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in the much-awaited 2022 general elections.

Speaking on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha on Monday, the Jubilee parliamentarian observed that the DP appears like the only candidate, for now, judging by his influence.

"Am not a fortune teller lakini ukimwangalia sasa (but looking at him now) I don't see anything near him. He is running against himself," said the leader.

She added that though the likes of Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have also announced interest in the same seat, they cannot match Ruto's growing support.

She hailed him as the only person who has made his candidature felt across the country so far, and consequently the most likely to carry the day in 2022.

"Wapo akina Kalonzo, lakini ukiangalia ni Ruto anasikika kila mahali (there are the likes of Kalonzo, but its only Ruto who is being heard everywhere)," she added.

Shollei also pledged her support for the DP, promising him her vote.

Others also eyeing the seat include Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
