The county boss is currently out of office owing to his ongoing corruption cases. Last week, the Kiambu County Assembly proceeded to impeach him, doubling his troubles.

Kibiru has ruled out politics in the matter stating that as a member of the Senate County Public Accounts and Implementation Committee (CPAIC), he can confirm that Waititu has a real case to deal with.

“I don’t think Mr Waititu’s woes are politically instigated. I sit in the CPAIC and the governor has serious fiduciary issues,” he stated.

The county boss is accused of misappropriation of funds.

At the same time, with the governor now set to appear before the Senate, it has emerged that he enjoys the backing of senators allied to Deputy President William Ruto.

But Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has called for a sober look into the matter, saying that there is need for the lawmakers to avoid looking into the matter from the angle of their political affiliations.

"Impeachment proceedings before the Senate are quasi-judicial in nature. The Senate looks at the evidence and not politics; if we entertain Tangatanga-Kieleweke politics, then we shall be ruining the reputation of the Senate as an impartial and independent body whose fidelity to the law must be its chief objectives,” he said.

Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari are also accused of pocketting Sh18 million in tenders, through deals with the county government using their own private companies.

Their daughters Diana Wangoko Ndung'u and Monica Njeri Ndung'u have also been implicated in the scam, allegedly involving five companies, some of which were registered shortly after his win in the 2017 polls.
