Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has said he was central to efforts to have Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi reinstated after she was impeached.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen radio, Sonko said he helped Elachi get back her job because she had committed no wrong.
"I accept that I am the one who made Elachi come back because she had committed no wrong. (Mimi nakubali ndio nimefanya Elachi arudi kwa sababu hakuwa na makosa)," Sonko said.
According to Sonko, Elachi was impeached because she was strict.
This is the first time Sonko has come out publicly to claim responsibility for the return of Elachi.
The Nairobi County Assembly speaker was ousted from her position by ward reps who were against how she was running the affairs of the assembly.
A few weeks ago, a court issued an order reinstating her as the speaker, but when she returned to her office, she was met by angry MCAs leading to chaos.
Elachi had accused embattled Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Abdi Guyo of instigating the chaos against her.
Following the consistent chaos, the governing Jubilee party, through it's Secretary General Raphael Tuju, replaced Abdi Guyo as the leader of the majority.
